3rd class recently visited the History Center and the Old School. This froms part of a project they are doing to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our school. The visit gave them a very good insight into the life of people in the past. The history center contains many items from country life long ago including 2 types of old irons, an open fireplace with a kettle and crock for hanging pots on. We also saw an old half door as well as a few oil lamps. The creel was full of turf which sat besdide an old school desk that contains ink wells. There was a large 2 man saw on the wall. This was used to cut wood for the fire and to cut trunks of trees into lengths of wood for carpentry use. The children were interested to hear that long ago, each child brought a sod of turf to school to provide warmth.The old school has changed a little but still has many features including a fireplace. The visit was interesting and informative.
