A Trip to Parke's Castle
29th Sep 2025
On Monday 29th September, 3rd class took a trip to Parke's Castle in County Leitrim, which is situated along the banks of Lough Gill. We arrived at 10 am and were greeted by our tour guide, who coincidently is a past pupil. The children were eager to begin the tour. We had a brief introduction to the origins of the castle, followed by the tour. The children learned about the sally port, musket holes, defence towers, pigeons towers, the sweat house, tenant farmers as well as the O'Rourke and Parke's Families. It was most informative and interesting. The children engaged very well and our guide who was impressed by all their questions and observations. We had enough time to stop at the playground on our return trip back to school.
