We were thrilled when we received the great news that Mr Kelly has been shortlisted for School Teacher of the Year at the upcoming Ocean FM Sports Awards.
The awards ceremony, which will celebrate local sporting achievement and contribution across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal over the last 12 months, will take place on Saturday, the 22nd of November in the Radisson Hotel in Sligo.
Mr Kelly has made the final shortlist of three for Schoolteacher of the Year - in recognition of his work with pupils in our school across Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic football, athletics and other sporting activities.
Mr Kelly along with other teaching colleagues, regularly gives up his lunch breaks to train the GAA football and hurling teams together with the cross country and relay teams. Earlier this year, Rathcormac NS was awarded the Cumann na MBunscol Large School of the year.
In recent years, Cathal has led our Active Schools Committee, and we achieved our active flag in 2024. In addition to all the sporting activities, Mr Kelly also introduced Ficheall Chess to the school, and he has mentored our debating team for the past three years.
Congrats to Mr Kelly on his well-deserved award nomination, and we look forward to supporting him on Saturday night.
In all, 15 Sports Awards will be presented on the night.
Special guests include John Aldridge and Ray Houghton, with music from Kieran Quinn.
