Grandparents Day Thursday 22nd January 2026

23rd Jan 2026

We were delighted to welcome a huge crowd  to the hall  on Thursday the 22nd January 2026 as part of our celebrations of Catholic School’s week with our grandparents as the guests of honour. This afternoon is a highlight of our school year and we remembered all grandparents in the prayer service lead by Fr Tom. The service began with a procession of candles to a table covered in love hearts ❤️ remembering grandparents  no longer with us, also included in the prayer service were readings ,prayers ,poetry and reflective passages all focusing on the important role grandparents play in the lives of their families .

Following the prayer service the audience was treated to a wonderful variety of performances which began with our music group playing the Sally Gardens. Junior Infants ,Senior Infants and Second class all recited poems with a grandparents theme. Third class sang You are My Sunshine ☀️ accompanied with lovely artwork featuring their grandparents. First class took to the stage with a first class performance of When I’m 64 complete with great actions. Fourth class accompanied by Mr Brennan on guitar sang My Grandfather’s Clock wonderfully. Fifth class took to the stage twice singing Que Sera Sera featuring a beautiful solo by Aoibheann and then they rocked the hall with Sweet Caroline. Sixth class in their final Grandparents assembly once again showcased their singing and performing talents as they entertained all present with Grandma’s hands and Beidh Aonach Amarach. It was fantastic to see everyone joining in with the choruses. Our music group played Shoo the donkey and some girls from 4th class danced along with it. The finale featured the whole school singing Grandparents Song together and it was a very emotional ending to a wonderful assembly. Mes Connell thanked the staff and the children for all their hard preparing for the day and praised their fantastic performance 🎭.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the children and parents who supplied the home baking for the refreshments served after the assembly. Once again we were fortunate to have some of our Parents Association working tirelessly serving teas and coffees and all the goodies. We appreciate their continued support of all events in the school and we look forward to seeing all our families at future events in the school.
