Green Schools Committee 2022-2023

8th Mar 2023

The Green Schools committee are 12 children from classes 4th-6th. They are on the committee for two years as that is how long it takes to achieve a green flag. The committee meet each term and discuss the targets to be achieved based on the action plan created in September. Ms McGillen is the Green Schools co-ordinator in Rathcormac NS at present.

Rathcormac NS is lucky to have such enthusiastic children who promote all of the flags we have previously achieved. The flags achieved are : Water, Energy, Travel, Global citizenship & the marine environment, Litter & waste.

We are currently trying to achieve the Biodiversity green flag. The pupils of Rathcormac NS completed surveys in the autumn term in relation to their knowledge of Biodiversity. The committee went around to all the classes and spoke about each of the flag themes including Biodiversity.

This term we will be running a Spring poster competition in school. There will be a spring clean of the school grounds and local area. The children will learn about the importance of biodiversity eg bees, butterflies, habitats.

Our Green Schools code is 'Come on folks, keep it simple and clean. Yeats' country is more beautiful green.'

Green Travel code: 'Take the right route, Walk, cycle or scoot. Help the environment too, It's now up to you!'
