Term 2 in First Class- Terrific Times, Thriving Minds!

26th Mar 2026

This term has been a busy and exciting one in our classroom, with lots of learning, creativity, and fun along the way!

In English, we have been focusing on narrative writing. The children have been learning about the structure of a story using the “story mountain" to beginnings, build-ups, problems, resolutions, and endings. We have also explored the use of adjectives to make our writing more descriptive and engaging. A big focus has been on using our sounds to support spelling.

In Irish, we have covered a range of themes including caitheamh aimsire, siopadóireacht, an teach agus éadaí. The children have been building their vocabulary and are gettig much more confident when speaking in Irish! We have also been practising our High Frquency Words in Irish to help with our reading.

In Maths, we have spent a lot of time developing our understanding of place value and column addition. We have recently started addition with regrouping, and the children are doing extremely well! We have also explored money and transformations, learning about sliding, rotating, and flipping shapes.

In SESE, we have been learning about spring and recycling. We are looking forward to creating artwork using recyclable materials next term. Due to the lovel weather we had last week we were able to go outside and look for signs of Spring and draw some lovely spring pictures.

In Art, the children have completed some fantastic directed drawings of robots, pizza love heart, lambs and created wonderful pieces, including their own versions of the Mona Lisa. Their creativity and effort has been wonderful to see.

In Music, we have been focusing on the elements of music, particularly dynamics and tempo. We also finished our 15-week Music Generation programme with Carl. The children did a fantastic performance of When I’m 64 for Grandparents’ Day, which was a great success.

We have celebrated many special occasions this term, including St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Pancake Tuesday, Engineering Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge and we celebrated 100 days at school!! There has been lots of fun, laughter, and hard work in our classroom every day!

We feel very lucky and grateful for such a wonderful term 2 and are looking forward to another great term ahead!
