Townland Project
As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Rathcormac National School, our 6th Class pupils have been exploring the rich heritage of Irish placenames through a special project, “The Story of My Townland.” Students researched the history, meaning, and cultural significance of their own townlands or places connected to their families, discovering how local landscapes, traditions, and communities are reflected in the names around us. Through maps, photographs, family stories, and historical research, the children have gained a deeper appreciation of our local heritage while creating a lasting record of the places that shape our community. This project highlights the strong connection between our school, our families, and the unique history of the Rathcormac area.
